PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Directors of the SHHA sit on committees that provide input on the various programs and services available to members. Directors may also be present at meetings with government officials of various departments and with MLA’s of the Official Opposition. The President and CEO carries on continuous discussions with government departments and prepares agendas, speaking notes and reports outlining the Association’s position on various issues as they arise.

District meetings are held each year, usually in January. These meetings provide a forum for members in the districts to discuss their particular issues and concerns. The Directors of the districts attend these meetings along with the Chair of the Board and the President and CEO. Representatives from SLGA are in attendance to answer questions on liquor and gaming regulations or any changes to legislation that would affect the operations of a member’s business establishment. Special guests will be invited to these meetings to present programs or services that the Board has approved.

The SHHA publishes the “Hospitality Saskatchewan” newsletter bi-monthly during the year. In the newsletter, members will find information that is pertinent to their businesses and perspective on issues that are confronting the Association, either financially, politically or both. Members may advertise in the newsletter at no cost. The Hotel Association of Canada also publishes a quarterly newsletter which updates news and information on the national hospitality industry as well as perspective on international tourism news.

The roster is the source of information for the SHHA. The roster includes contact information for all members of the Provincial Legislature including Government Cabinet ministers as well as key officials for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. All members of the SHHA and relevant contact information is listed alphabetically and then by District. Allied members, many of whom advertise in the roster, are listed for the members convenience.

The SHHA maintains a tourism committee to monitor all tourism activities throughout the province. An SHHA director sits on the Board of Directors of Tourism Saskatchewan. The SHHA is involved in labour and educational committees that guide future employment opportunities in the industry.

Every spring, the SHHA Annual convention and Hospitality Expo takes place alternating each year between Regina and Saskatoon. The convention offers business seminars, informative seminars and the opportunity to question government officials in an open forum. Delegates can attend numerous social functions and enjoy great entertainment throughout the two day event. The Hospitality Expo is held in conjunction with the convention and is the largest industry related show of it’s kind in the province. Hotel, restaurant and food service suppliers exhibit the latest products and services on the market and delegates can test, taste and explore.

The plan offers coverage for all ailments or conditions that are current or arise in the future.

The SHHA is pleased to partner with Cherry Insurance to provide members with comprehensive commercial insurance coverage for their businesses and for liability exposure. Cherry Insurance has lowered premiums for many members while at the same time maintaining or exceeding existing coverage levels.

The energy sector is very volatile and the only way to protect your business from major fluctuations in the market is to sign on with the CEG Energy natural gas program. CEG has saved members significant energy costs by bulk buying natural gas and reselling to members through long term contracts.

It costs a lot more to attract new customers than to keep existing ones so it is imperative frontline staff are properly trained in the art of customer relationship building.

When you have to travel within the province, just show your SHHA membership card when you check in and receive up to 50% off the posted room rate at selected hotels in Saskatchewan. A list of participating hotels is published in the newsletter several times per year.

The SHHA partnership with the Saskatchewan Tourism and Education Council provides training and support for important industry initiatives. The Server Intervention Program “Serve It Right” offers our members and staff the opportunity to learn about the liability associated with over serving and how to safeguard your business from legal action in the event of an accident away from the property.

The SHHA partnership with Paymentech offers convenience, cost savings and personalized service. Visa, Mastercard and Interact transactions are on the program and SHHA members receive the best rates in the industry.

A Canada Select representative inspects and rates all participating properties to ensure they meet consumer expectations. Ratings are based on extent and quality of facilities, services and amenities. The higher the star rating, the more extensive are the facilities, guest services and amenities. The SHHA administers the program in Saskatchewan as part of the national Canada Select program.
