Canada Select Program

The Canada Select Accommodation Rating Program will assist to direct you to the most appropriate accommodations to suit your needs. Our stars light the way to your selection.

An Accommodation Rating Program is defined as the rating of like accomodations based on the basics of cleanliness, comfort and safety, as well as the extent of quality of the facility and amenities.

Canada Select inspects and rates all participating properties to ensure they meet consumer expectations. Ratings are based on extent and quality of facilities, services and amenities. The higher star rating, the more extensive are the facilities, guest services and amenities.

Choose the Star Rating That's Right For You

It would be like comparing apples to oranges to rate Bed & Breakfasts using the same criteria as used for large Resorts & Hotels. Therefore, the various types of accommodations are divieded into six different categories, and different criteria are used in each to establish the star ratings. Decide the type of accomodations you want, let the stars light the way.

1. Bed & Breakfast/Hospitality Home (Bed & Breakfast, Guest Homes & Farm Vacations)	BB/GH
2. Cottage (Cottages, cabins, houses, housekeeping, condo-style units)	C
3. Country Inn (Small Inns, Large Inns)	CI or I
4. Hunting & Fishing Lodges (Lodges, camps, out-posts)	H/F
5. Hotel/Motel (Hotels, suites, motels, motor inns)	H/M
6. Resort (Resort hotels, condo hotels, lodges, spas, ranches & housekeeping)	R

What the Stars Ratings Mean

Secure, clean, well-maintained, comfortable beds, private bath (four piece), air conditioned rooms, telephone (direct dial), full housekeeping or continental breakfast, air conditioned meeting room, photocopy/fax/mail on premises, laundry (same day) or washer/dryer on premises.
Plus:
TV cable or satellite, full service, licensed air conditioned, dining room; licensed, air conditioned lounge; air conditioned convention room with banquet service, gift shop, heated indoor/outdoor pool and whirlpool, exercise room (five pieces of equipment), bell service/room service/valet (15hr/day), data line access in business & executive units, secretarial service (8 hrs/day)

Secure, clean, well maintained, private bath (four piece), air conditioned rooms, telephone (direct dial), full housekeeping or continental breakfast, air conditioned meeting room, photocopy/fax/mail on premises.
Plus:
TV on command movies or direct, formal dining room (separate menu), ballroom, beauty/barber shop on site, sauna, professional Health club, bell service/valet/room service (24 hrs), computer, printer and personal office on premises, laundry (24 hrs), dry-cleaning (same day).

1/2 stars are awarded to properties whose overall quality exceeds their specific category rating.

Note: "Plus" outlines differences to be achieved in addition to previous star levels.
